It doesn't have to be perfect.

I have been a stay at home mom for eight years now and I have not mastered everything at home.

There are times I got my cooking 🍳🍳🍳👩‍🍳👩‍🍳 together, but my kitchen organization is just average, dishes 🍽️🍽️🍽️done and counter wiped, and that's about it. The 🍲pots and pans are sitting on the stove, the food are not put away.

There are times, I beat deadlines, but my 👦👧🧒👶children would be just on their own with coloring books, pencils and papers, and 📺screen time.

There are times the whole 🏘️house is clean, but we are ordering 🍕🍕🍕 pizza because that's all I can do for the day.

There are times my children's wishes of what they want to do will be granted and I am with them but the house will be a total chaos in terms of organization, means some stuff are not at its place.

There are times I can only get my kids peanut butter 🍔 sandwiches, warm 🥛🥛🥛 milk and slices of 🍎🍎 apples while I don't know where to start for the day.

I can go on and on and on of my imperfections.

My point is don't beat yourself, but be grateful of what you've accomplished and that's enough. You are enough, whatever you can do for yourself, the house, work, or family is enough.

It's great if you are able to get it all perfectly together, alhamdulillah, and if not, do what you can and what is needed at the time it is needed.

You know better.

What concept/perspective helps you navigate life?

To me, this particular quote helps me sail through life. Internalizing this helps me accept my circumstances, especially those that I have no control over.

In light of our present situation, we might not like being quarantined and limited in our mobility or putting a stop in the routine of our lives, but perhaps it is good for us.

Think back, in the past, maybe you missed a bus or train or flight, but it was actually better for you. Maybe a job interview you failed, or job you lost are bad circumstances but it pushed you to build your own business. How about a prospect spouse, the marriage didn't push through because he/she was actually of bad character or the family or he/she is infertile.

There is always good in every situation, only if we ponder.

Sit down and reflect the good that this situation has brought upon you and your family. Think deeply, ponder what this situation has taught you?

What have you learned during this #covid_19 disaster?

In this times when many people are hoarding and buying more than what they need, our household just went about our normal shopping.

Alhamdulillah both my husband and I didn't feel the urgency of hoarding or stocking beyond what we need. Last night, we got extra fruits and veggies as gifts, alhamdulillah. I was surprised, but grateful too. The one who gave this gift is not even a wealthy person, subhanAllah.

In this life we will be tested.

It is stated in the Qur'an: And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." Each and everyone of us has our sustenance written, we put the effort in getting those sustenance and the rest is from Allah subhanahu wa taala. Truly, reliance in Allah is all we can do in this testing time.

How do you emphasize the importance of ✋ washing to kids?

My boys are age 6 and under, although we taught them to always wash their ha✋, today I took the time to sit them down and discuss the importance of hand-washing especially at this period.

We had a discussion about germs. Where it is, how to get rid of it and why we should get rid of it. Why should we cover our mouth when we cough or sneeze.

This discussion was followed by an experiment, inspired by @sarahijaved to show the boys how hand-washing with soap is of utmost importance.

That simple experiment, helped them grasp the importance of hand-washing and the possible dangers brought by germs, and I anchored it to the present health situation.

Experiment: On the black plate, water with ground pepper (germs). White plate is dish soap. First, individually, the boys were instructed to dip their finger in the water in black plate and observed how the "germs" didn't react, it stayed. Then they dipped their finger in the dish soap, and put it back in the black plate, where they all noticed that the "germs moved away". Therefore, washing hands with soap is important in getting rid of germs.

8 years of marriage, alhamdulillah.

Would you marry a stranger?

My journey to this marriage was not the romantic kind you know, no iloveyou was uttered before our nikah/marriage, but alhamdulillah we are here stronger and committed to keep our marriage and family, no matter what, in Shaa Allah.

By the standard of many people, I married a stranger. We communicated to know each other for 3 days exchanging and answering questions thru email, then we had a one-time sit-down to personally meet with chaperones to see if we will be attracted to each other, which we both said yes at the end of that meeting. After a week we decided to move forward and we got married, #alhamdulillah.

Islam prohibits bf-gf relationship, and as a #Muslimah I don't believe in long engagement nor long periods of communication to know each other, as I would like to keep any prohibited actions, even words, away. I would like to shut shaitan's opportunity to instigate any temptation to commit #haraam.

I also believe you will never get to know someone unless you live with him, and in Islam for you live with someone if to marry him/her.
However, in taking steps toward marriage, I follow the advise of my deen that in looking for a spouse prioritize checking the deen (religious practice) of your potential spouse. Then the character among other things, #alhamdulillah Allah subhanahu wa taala facilitate this marriage to happen.

Our stay-at-home win. We can afford to have late

Our stay-at-home win.

We can afford to have late family game night, without worrying of work or school the next day. Last night, we played where the winner can give a consequence to the loser.

I was the winner. The consequence I gave was for my girls age 17 and 13 to spend two hours exclusive with each other.

The 13-year old girl tried hard to win the game so she can implement the consequence because she misses the 17-year old who started university last year and always busy with studying and school work. So for one week, they will spend two hours with each other. Both are happy with this 'punishment'. After our game, the two girls with my other girl, 14, and I had an all-girls' time. We went for a drive, scared ourselves in the dark and got lost.

The drive was of no direction, and we ended up using the GPS going back home when we had enough of being lost. The van was full of teasing, laughter, and planning for our next activity.

We got home at 3am, with all smile and went to bed with heart filled with joy. One of the ways to connect with teenagers, be their friend.

I have always been confident with my niqab, face veil. These days it gives me peace, alhamdulillah.

These days too, I don't get the stares as captured in this post by @amuslimmamacomics.

On a serious note, we Muslims wash our hands a minimum of 5x a day during wudhu every time we pray. So handwashing is instilled in us already, we just have to add more as needed in this time of pandemic.

As Muslims too, we believe that nothing befalls us unless it is written for us. We take precautions, and the rest we entrust it to Allah subhanahu wa taala, coz we know safety is only in His hands. @beingmetoronto posted about this reminder too (please check my stories). Did you panic buy too?

Be a kid.

To be a parent is to be a able to become a kid too once in a while, and your kid's playmate.

Your capability to be a kid and playmate of your child is one of the keys to reach them, to form the bond that will bridge and strengthen your relationship till they grow up.

Being their playmate is being their friend and often we find more comfort in a friend than our own family. This is why we should strive to be a friend of our children.

Tropical gems, my gems.

Well there are definitely lots of gems in tropical places. But these ones here that I saw today at the @cambridgebutterflyconservatory brought me back home to the Philippines for a bit and awaken some good childhood memories.
The first picture is called hibiscus but we call it gumamela;

Second pic is honestly I haaaaaave no idea what's the name and I didn't get to check it there because I was just right away brought back to the days when I was walking through these kinds of grasses, yes it is wild grass back home, we don't plant it;

The third picture is bougainvillea and ASK me guys, ask me how to care for it, how to breed it, how to make it grow fast and I know the answers. I can probably claim as an expert in caring for this plant 😀 too much confidence there huh?! But that's because I grew up caring for bougainvillea of various colors - almost any vibrant colors, name it and we have it back then. Whenever the barangay fiesta comes, the town is borrowing our bougainvilleas to be displayed along the road!!! The fourth plant is what we call San Francisco plant.

All these plants were part of my late grandma's (Allah yarhama -- may God be please with her) garden, and I helped took care of it. I'm a grandma's girl, so imagine the sentimental value these plants have on me.

The wild grass brought me memories because I used to go with my grandma to look for medicines or firewood in the forest, where many more treasures can be found.

No matter how we plan to succeed or do certain things, there are times circumstances don't turn the way we want it. The plans sometimes don't end with our desired result.

I wanted to take a journalism course in University but due to financial restraint the only option for me was to go to a government university, where good grades is what lets you in. The course was closed by time I enrolled. From my desire to become a journalist, I shift it to just wanna finish my university education so any program will do, at that point. I got in linguistic class, with a minor in education and mass communication.

My circumstances didn't align with my plan, but I went with the flow, I still ended up becoming a journalist, but in addition to that I was honed to become a translator too, a skill and job I love.
Sometimes the way to your dreams has another route different from the conventional ones, enjoy the journey, learn from the experience and wherever you end up be prepared to be the best you.

Creating bond.

I had a headache last night and couldn't even open my eyes. Then came this lil man proud of his creation so in the dark I had to turn the flash on and take his picture.

I like making my children know that I am happy for the things they do, even the simplest things. I like them to be creative, to be confident that whatever they do is good and it will make me happy. They are little, at this point what matters is they develop the confidence. That they will never doubt themselves, to not present their creations because it is not good enough.

With that clarity and confidence in you, you will present yourself to others stronger and often, you leave the meeting table successful.
